Re: MARTIN NASH
Sounds good to me... Nash is a full, hard working pro and has a lot
to offer... but he's right about the difference in what kind of
material (sleight vs. non-sleight) for laymen.
.
The PERFECT example, TO ME, is the Don Alan approach. He is a
master at doing ONE CARD TRICK between 2 non-card, so the deck can
be either set, gaffed, or whatever...
.
I have watched some of the best at the close up table for laymen
and nearly all can be caught holding breaks, doing cuts that do not
appear normal to card players, etc. etc. -- So the simple approach
in COMMERCIAL applications is the best. Example: I have just worked
out a handling, using a short stack of dupes in a clump (sort of
a mini Tarbell Force Deck) to do Mike Close's FROG PRINCE without
the difficult, FORCE CONTROL. The Force Control, in Mike's hands
-- remember he works tables 6 nights a week -- is excellent, but
in the hands of the Biro, who does this stuff maybe once a month
for customers... it is too hard to do PROPERLY... So, I take the
Don Alan approach!

Re: ENIGMA
Enigma sounds pretty wild. Nic is part of the Long Beach crowd that
is miles ahead in creativity (Caveney, Smith, Alan, Kevin James)
and it sounds like a strong effect.
.
Reminds me of a similar effect years ago where a BALL resting on
the "mouth down" glass was tapped and penetrated through... It was
a Parlour effect, as you could not hand the glass to anyone....
It was a bottomless glass with a pair of catgut threads across the
opening -- the ball would rest on the threads and when you slapped
it... the ball would go thru... There were several variant moves.

Re: DOVE THRU GLASS
Good one, T A! For the record though, that's exactly what he did.
By the time the arrow reached him, he "slapped" it out of the air
and snagged it by the feathers. It was more of a reflex action
rather than watching. If you're familiar with Skeet shooting,
it's like station seven where you are facing the oncoming target
at half the normal distance. I've seen some people even walk half
again closer and still break the target barely as it exits the
trap. Sort of like some card moves, if you take time to watch
what you're doing, it's too late, you're caught!
By the way, does anybody have any good Skeet recipes? Every time
I fix them they seem to come out DRY!

Re: MARTIN NASH
I guess that in a way, magic is like piano - I'm sure that the working
folks do fancy stuff at home (Nash says he practices about 6 hours a
day) to keep the fingers in shape, etc. But out in the trenches, you
go with reliable stuff that works.
Also, what someone like Nash does is a lot like the Neuro-Muscular
Programming we were discussing. In performance, at full speed, he can
do the stuff in his sleep and it works every time (he said that in 15
years he's blown the close to Jacks or Better about 4 times - I would
guess that is probably about .0 something percent). But at one point,
when he was trying to slow a move down to show it, the entire deck
splattered out of his hands!

Re: MAGIC'S CHILD
Wells can tell you which came first - the chicken or the egg. But I
think that in the magic/science arena it is pretty clear that magic
came first.
Does remind me of a joke though. I'll just do the key lines, you can
fill the patter....
A doctor, an engineer and a lawyer were talking. The doctor said it
was clear that his was the oldest profession, citing the Biblical lines
about Eve being made from Adam's rib - clearly a surgical proceedure.
The engineer said she disagreed - after all, before that, the Bible
describes bringing order out of chaos - clearly engineering.
The lawyer said, "Ah, but who make the chaos?"

Re: ELMSLEY
I know that most of the users on this system are far more advanced in
the field of magic than myself, but I have a question that might seem
elementary for some people. The Elmsley Count, as described in "Counts
Cuts, Moves, and Subtlety" is done in the fingertips. Currently, I am

J.C. Wagner. The effect calls for obtaining a cut after the second card
during the Elmsley Count. Can anyone tell me how this can be done,

Re: DOVE THRU GLASS
There is a sure way to gaff the crossbow catch... a simple version
is done by John Carney in his comedy stage act. I used to have
some kind of a trick where with a bow and arrow you shot the arrow,
which actually never left the bow (it went into the bow somehow)
and a dupe appeared at target. Also did a knife throwing gag
where you toss the knife backwards and arm coming forward looks
like a toss when knife shows up in target.
Old stuff.

Re: ELMSLEY
"Obtaining a cut" don't you mean obtaining a BREAK? Check it out.
Also... for what it is worth the REAL ELMSLEY COUNT, See his newly
published book, or find the old original 4 Card Trick manuscript,
DOES NOT happen at the fingertips.
.
Funny many thought that, since Vernon's handling for Twisting the
Aces was the first widely described trick using the count... then
a few years later a really top cardman/gambler type taught me to
do the count in the mechanic's grip, holding the cards in the deep
left hand postion. Which was far superior, you can hold the cards
squared up far easier and better.... THEN WHAMMO... I read Elmsley's
new book... and that very GRIP is the way HE invented and first
described the move!
Basically you hold all cards squared in left hand, thumb and fore-
finger tip control the cards, left thumb peels one card away to
the left and the right FINGERTIPS hold the three remaining cards.
If you just keep Placing the cards from right hand ONTO the one,
or more, depending on number you are at, in the left hand it will
look natural. Once in the grip and you understand the principal,
you can figure out the sequence of taking two as one and replacing
the under card, etc.
.
Once again. It is the originator that really understands the move,
the reason, the grip.... most of the time the improvers miss the
point.
.
I can still remember the first time I ever saw Twisting the Aces,
however, it was done by Ray Boston and it fooled me so badly I
didn't know what hit me. I saw Ray at Baltimore IBM this past July
and we laughed about that story.
.
I use it all the time to make a point. The point being, how much
fun it is to think you know a lot and to BE TOTALLY FOOLED.
.
There are a few things like that in Lance Burton's new show. I have
no idea how they work! And I will not ask. I prefer to be baffled.

Re: NEWS
Some very exciting things are happening, and I thought it might
interest some of the people on MAGIC!. This particular news involves
a video tape teaching magic to the public, which I have begun
production on.
The great news is that the video is going to be marketed on television
by means of an Info-mercial, which is a 30 minute program made up of
pitch, entertainment, pitch, and then closing with a commercial.
.
The cost will be $49.50, and you will get the video and Michael
Skinner's Ultimate 3 Card Monte "FREE" if you act NOW! Number of
effects, etc..., have yet to be determined, BUT I do know that Glenn
Falkenstein will host the Info-mercial, and that Michael Skinner was
the consultant for the material appearing on the video. (I mean, who
would YOU have picked, if you could have picked anyone!)
.
We are working on the script daily, but prior bookings continually get
in the way. The Info-Mercial, hopefully, will start running by Jan.,
or maybe February.
.
Good work, good people, high standards - I'm very lucky! These people
are insisting on class all the way! But more than that, this is only
the first on many exciting projects approved by these people. Projects
that are taking a long time to fully develope, but which, when they
happen, are going to have a wide ranging impact!

Will look into it - Oct. 9th might be a possible. Tabby's gonna be

Nathan and I have a standing bit about the word "cool." He wouldn't
let me say it until I asked Tab if it was OK. Now, when I pick him up
from school he puts on his sunglasses and I say, "Cool." He says, "You
can't say 'Cool,' only Tabby can say 'Cool.'" And I say, "I asked
Tabby and he said it was OK for me to say 'Cool.'"
Today, after the bit, he said, "Can we go to the hotel?" I said, "What
hotel?" And he said, "The hotel we stayed at with Tabby." (A
reference to the DM SIX MONTHS AGO). I said, "Why do you want to go
there?" and he said, "So I can ask Tabby if it is OK for my friends to
say 'Cool.'"
His third birthday is coming up next month - not sure I want to know

A more subtle use of the same sort of gimmick is to have ELASTIC
threads across the bottomless area of the glass; you load something
into it (under cover of hank or such) -- usually a ball or similar item
that will smoothly spread the threads apart -- and then can very
cleanly show the item resting in the glass, and dump it out.

Of course the simplest way would be to have an exact length of fishline
or such anchoring the arrow to a point behind the bowman -- so it would
stop at an exact point in front of you. Of course the line could
break, and in such cases it might be nice to have a Kevlar tux -- but
not that many other performers would try to rip you off.

Sorry no number. I have a different version of how to catch the arrow.
But really I have the idea of catching the arrowhead only. after it
goes thru a foan target that catches the arrow, holds it and lets the
arrowhead continue on. The fact is the arrowhead would be drops off as
arrow is loaded into the crossbow. The arrowhead then secreted into my
mouth. The rest is acting. The arrow fired, hits the foam target and
I react that the arrowhead continues on ans i catch it in my mouth.
Not unlike the way i have performed catching bullet in teeth.

Re: DOVE THRU GLASS
I have seen Hans Pantar live at Ballys, as well as Morretti live in
Europe many years ago. I was sure that someone if not several
someones would bring up the fact that Morretti and Sons do a crossbow
thing. I have gone to great pains to make sure that I am not
duplicating anything done before. I have not. In fact most, if not all
of the effects I am performing are original, if not in concept, in
presentations. I do not intend on doing a CROSSBOW TRICK SHOT ACT, but
rather a magic, illusion act with an emphasis on weapons, which happen
to include a crossbow. It also includes swords, swordcanes, bullwhips
and daggers. The crossbow will probally make up about 30% to 35% of
the overall act. So thanks for the tip. But I am doing said research.
If by chance you might have any ideas with the above mentioned weapons
or other not mentioned weapons, I would very much like to hear them.
Thanks again for the help. MIKE.

before, but I did not take notes... so can't recall much of anything
as to props, tricks, moves, etc. just that I liked it, but the
rest of the audience and judges DID NOT GET IT... my thoery is
that the aud did not know what they were watching, had not seen
the effects before so did not know when to applaud. Like if they
see a dove produced, they are fimiliar with that, and know it is
an applause cue.

How about making a ninety-degree turn? Shoot it up and it never
comes down (outdoors), shoot at a target and a bullet arrives there
instead of an arrow? It changes color. Shoot an arrow across the
stage and when it hits the target it has "got something" I don't
want to suggest a live bird... but a replica?
Bob Haskell's wife was a marksperson(?) with the bow and arrow.
He used to have a chosen card caught by the arrow as he threw the
deck into the air, she shot the arrow through the fluttering pack
of cards and when it was seen in the target the selected (a dupe)
card be there. He blew it one time trying to CLASSIC FORCE the card
and took three tries before the correct!!!! card was selected.
There is where you use a one way deck....

I like that. Card sword using the crossbow would play strong and a
lot safer than trying to catch one just before it punched through

Thanks. Since most of the stuff, as mentioned before is magic/illusion
with weapon themes. I am blocking and staging with applause ques in
place. have tried the effects out in different routines at clubs
around town and have seemed to get most of the kinks worked out. The
great part is the routines as i would like to use them, when vcombined
in the right order, seem to get a great resonse from the audiences.
Hopefully means I am on the right track. All audiences have been lay,
not magicians. But since I plan on working for the same (lay
audiences) I think I am on the right track. Thanks again for running
this thru you mental matter. If anything pops out later,

Forgive me for jumping in, but I think that the effect you are
referring to is called "Coins Through The Table." The original version
is attributed to Han Ping Chien, who performed it in 1914. There are
a TON of subsequent variations. Check Bobo, New Modern Coin Magic for
several versions, Ammar's The Magic of Michael Ammar for a version with
Mike Gallo's "kicker ending," Goshman's version in Magic By Gosh, etc.,
etc.

Re: NEW VERSION OF MAGIC!
I've just installed a new version of the MAGIC! software. As a MAGIC!

in speed. If there are any problems that you think may be a result of
the new version, please let me know by leaving a Comment from the Main

I would like to call everyone's attention to an additional command -
UNTHREAD. Unthread is found on the small menu that appears when you
have replied to, or appended to, a message (it is on the same menu as
Save and Abort - it appears after you have entered your reply or

from the old topic. So, if you are replying to a message or appending

to be "Light From The Lamp's"?
.
Second, after two read throughs of _Keep The Wheels Turning_ I'm
hoping I can find out about other books that might give insight
into the thoughts and habits of other master builders, manufacturers,
and others of similar nature. Outside of Okito's two books and
some magazine articles, _Illusion Builder To Fu Manchu_ , _Jarrett_,
The Paul Osborne books, The Jack Gwynne Book, some Doc Nixon
stuff and the above Steinmeyer gift I don't have much else around
here on the subject. Any additional suggestions along these lines
would be most appreciated. I probably left something out of the
above list like _20th Century Magic_ and several crude staple
backs, but you get the picture. I would like to have access to
all books on the subject, so don't hold back. Also, do you know

Where are you located, Doug? I would imagine that if you talk to
the guys and girls at ROSCO right they'll tell you the stuff that's
in it. There are three varieties I know of in major use right now
and the delineation is the base; alcohol, oil or water. Most fog
guys who care about the crowd and the act use a water base. Another
interesting stuff is the solution used to make smoke on movie sets.
I'll never forget the filming of _Urban Cowboy_ in Gilley's Club.
The cry every few minutes was "More smoke, more smoke!". What is
that stuff made of? It really hung in the air. Is it a heat generated
smoke like the fog machines?

I am not afraid of the demonstrations. My real theme is that magic is
a demonstration art and teachers can learn much from performers.
However sometimes I see where an author does not know a lot of the
risks of storage, or risks of breathing the chemicals. Two years I
chaired a conference that was world-class for high school teachers of
science. The first speaker was Dick Gough of Rockford, who is the
teacher of magic I have seen. His first effect was a bill switch of a
borrowed one dollar bill to a five, When returning the five to the
spectator he made the point tht\at students should gain from each
demonstration rather than be making fools of the students.

Yes, it does have two lenses and a siren. The "whistles" are like a
sort of flute type thing along the base. It is a Straight Arrow

I remember Chelman's routine now that you mention it. He does make
an excellent point regarding the second coin as opposed to the last
coin.
My question on the coins across (as well as the cups and balls) is
why does everyone use FOUR coins when three is just as good (or in
the case of the cups and balls...two cups instead of three). Chelman
of course uses a four coin routine.

I use cigar boxes for routines, the metal and plastic "nut and bolt"
cases (with all the little clear plastic drawers) for small close up

Finally, the largest items go into drawers. Try to group similar

Re: DC
Excuse me for butting in...
Washington has a number of Mariott hotels. The J.W. Marriott is the
flagship hotel and is VERY nice. It is on Pennsylvania Avenue and
is NOT in an unsafe part of town. It is near the White House, across
the street from the Willard Hotel (a beautiful restored hotel) and
sits atop a shopping complex that contains the Magic Masters Magic
Shop. The National Theatre is a half block away. You can get mugged
anyplace if you aren't careful and there are plenty of places in D.C.
that you can be mugged or worst. However, I wouldn't call this an
unsafe area at all. Jim Nagel and his family just stayed there for a
week and Bill Spooner and his wife just stayed at the Hotel
Washington which is in the same area. The Le Grand David Company has
stayed there when working the Easter Egg Roll at the White House.
Richmond is about two hours by car from Washington. Fredericksburg
is a mid point. Richmond is in Virginia. Tabby is in Maryland.
The Potomac River and a fair amount of land is in between Tabby and
Richmond. He is much closer to Washington. Woody Landers is a very
good close up magician who lives in Richmond.

Re: ROTH REVIEW
I would submit that, in the construction of repeated transposition
effects (e.g., Birds of a Feather, Matrix, Ace Assemblies) there is a
reason why four items are most often used, which contradicts your
assertion that "three is just as good."
The reason has to do with the theatrical rule of three. There is a
pleasing natural structure to sets of three which human beings like.
The first phase sets the premise, the second refines it, the third
completes it. You find this structure in theater (where, for instance,
the three-act play is a form that has been used by many major
playwrights), in comedy (where the three-phase joke is an established
form), and of course in magic.
Consider that, in a four-object transposition effect, there are
actually three transpositions. (One object -- often designated the
"leader" -- doesn't move; the others move to join it.) Thus, routines
using four coins fit this desirable structure; a structure which is
clearly so organically satisfying that most people have never pondered
why they like it, but are drawn to using it nevertheless.

A customer bought a bottle of the foil-heating chemical, and stored it

Ditto on the Williamson underwear transpo. You've seen alla good stuf

Gary Plants doing the Cervon Pass (evidentally he did it to Cervon

Lester Lake doing the guillotine at the local college auditorium;
Scotty York doing the frog trick;
Mike Close doing the frog trick;
Frog watching the frog trick;
Sylvester The Jester doing the entire second half of his act, this
got better each time I saw it;
That's enuff isn't it. I'll be naming every real magician on MAGIC!;

Mike mentions in Workers that there really is an amazing tendancy for

supposed to stroll across a card spread. The spectatorsar tld that
he is going to stop on the selected card, but the real idea is that he
is supposed to miss and wander off of the spread completely. Damned if

the Castle) is:
Close-up Early - John Pooley
Close-up Late - Tom Ogden

The full story is better than that. Apparently, there was a contingent
of Amish people from the surrounding area who had, after years of
hearing about this annual magic convention, decided to attend the gala
show. When Stern & Fox announced that there would be a "special show"
following the gala, outdoors, the Amish joined the rest of the crowd.
Stern & Fox (and probably a few others) came out dressed in feathers
and such, and did their ritual dance... and the moon went away.
The Amish quietly got into their wagons and left. They've never come
back.

Regarding the labels, the only ones I had seen until recently were from
Japan. However, this year Avery (the largest label company) released
videotape labels. They are number 5199; perhaps they are available in
Europe. They are meant to go with Avery's "LabelPro" software, which is
an excellent program, but of course you can also use them with a
typewriter or by handwriting. The labels are somewhat expensive,
because you must buy a full box which includes both spine and top
labels. But they're very convenient.

creating the roundtable. One of the others had an appearance by Harry

I don't have it either and I already know I don't need it. Have just
moments ago decided to dust off some old ones and get going on them.
.
And would you believe I just INVENTED a new bit with the fast and
loose chain!!! You do the layout with the ONE FINGER telling the
sucker that "See I have not moved my finger yet, put it right
alongside mine in the same loop!" (that move is not new)... then
you say, "OK I'll take this loop" sticking a finger in a small
loop alongside.
.
Of course when you pull the chain, they are LOOSE and they LOSE.
.
Your finger is still inside a loop. A small loop. I have a five
inch loop that can be snuck onto the loop as you lay it out and
put at the overlap... you CANNOT tell it isn't part of the layout.
.
Worth adding to any lecture or book. Makes a killer bit!

The math series is a few years old. The Blackstone pieces were put
together by Charles Reynolds; I believe they were all taped at the
outset of the series, and no new ones have been done since. I have seen
the show a few times; it's far too precious for my tastes, reflecting
an unfortunately common notion that kids will only enjoy learning if it
is sugar-coated.
The series title bears no relationship to the book title; in fact, it
was Mike Caveney who suggested using "Square One" -- I had used a
different title, which Stan discarded in favor of that.

I remember hearing this story also. The company I believe was
"Rings and Things" and the chemical was a mercury compound
(either mecuric chloride or mecuric oxide). It was used in an
effect called heat. This chemical is also found on the back of
matches sold in magic shops called snake matches. If you scrape
off the white powder on the back of the snake match and have it
on your fingertips when it is rubbed onto a slightly damp piece of
aluminum foil, the foil will become extremely HOT. This chemical
is poisonous by ingestion so you must use extreme care if you
choose to do this. Do wash your hands immediately afterwards. I
assume it may be possible for this to be absorbed through the skin
and that is why you may not wish to do this.

Mike,
I've been leafing through old Genii's tonight and came across
something you might like. June 91 has an ad for Dove Archery by
Harlin Magic, Cambridge, MN. Their $875.00 price includes very
light draw weight compound bow, sights, mechanical release, and
gimmicked target with video instructions.
The effect seems to be that you pop a balloon fastened to the
target and a live dove appears perched on the arrow shaft (ala
balloon to dove tray?). They almost imply "no skill required" but
I know better. I've tried releases and they seem to be even more
critical than good ole' fingers.
Thought you might want to check it out.

An interesting idea for aiming the robot, but the effect pretty well
requires that it appear that you are seriously expecting it to find the
selected card. And when the first robot doesn't work, you swap it for
a second walking toy object (I use a "better" robot - the first is
white, the second is identical except silver). Both have to fail in a
fairly believable manner. (Actually, no matter what happens, both WILL
fail - selected card is long gone).

Actually, Pete, the string selection technique is TERRIFIC - only DO
NOT TAG the strings! Now you can assemble routine with three random
tricks. If you have too many tricks in the other room, you can
accomplish the same thing by printing out all of the titles from the
trick database onto sheets of paper, sticking these to the wall and
throwing three darts - the three titles closest to the darts become
your new act.

Re: VIDEO TAPE
The software package, which includes sample sheets of various label
styles, is pretty easy to find in computer supply stores. The specific
types of labels can be more obscure, but I'm sure you can order them
directly from Avery. Yes, they are now making labels designed for
audiocassettes. The program allows you to build a database, as well as
one-time designs. It allows a wide range of sizes in two fonts, which
can be made bold or italic, and includes a lot of graphic icons, too.
I recently came across an augmentary program (by another company, but
expressly for use with the Avery program) that provides several extra
fonts, dingbats and graphics. Haven't bothered to buy this, so I can't
comment on its quality.

First shot goes straight up and sticks to ceiling.... then the

Unfortunately, Tabby, this wrinkle about the password may be
my undoing. The password is, without getting more specific,
rather obvious -- like I read all those rules on how NOT to choose
a password, and decided to go against them. Definitely something
someone else who was impersonating me could figure out -- something
to do with the name itself.
As to your tatoo, I can't say I've had the pleasure. As to the Evan
Katz Sr. and Jr, theory, I don't think this helps me. My father's name
is not Evan. There is, as I think I mentioned, another Evan Katz that

The forty-ninth set of MAGIC! messages - #14000 (August 13, 1991)
to #14499 (August 15, 1991) - has been transferred to a downloadable
file. The file is named MAGIC-49.TXT. This means that you can now
go to the file area, download this file, and read the forty-ninth
volume of messages off-line. For those who know how to use the
PKUNZIP system for uncompressing files, there is a compressed
version of this same file. It is called MAGIC-49.ZIP and is less
than 1/2 the size of the full-text version.
Not only will transferring these messages to a file make it easier

to those that speak English, but this won't happen before next year.
The price for the PAL version is $40 per tape, and you get both volumes
for $75. (This is slightly higher than the U.S. price, because of the
extra cost of coversion.)
.
The third tape in the series - actually released as Vol. 2, (The
numbering sequence is my own idea. Do you like it?) - will be on
Rubber Band magic, and will also feature John Cornelius's Disappearing
Nickle. (Also known as Fickle Nickle) You will also receive the
Vanishing Nickle FREE with the video. This will probably be released
in September, and features a special swimming pool segment filmed at
fellow MAGIC! user, David Luther's swimming pool. You'll also see
cameo appearances of a dozen or so local SAM club members in the back
ground.
.
Sorry I wasn't able to go into my thoughts on learning with video when
the topic came up earlier. I think this is an important topic with
many considerations, and when I return later in September I'd like to
find time to address it.
.
Now, unfortunately, isn't the time. Hannah and I leave for Tokyo
today, and while Hannah gets to return early in September, I have to
travel straight to West Palm Beach, then to Nw York, finally Memphis,
and I return home September 13th. Then into the studio to finish a
video project, before finishing the month with the Health Industry
Distributors Association Trade show, and the American Association of
Family Physicians Trade show. So in the next 30 days I'm basically
working on my Frequent Flyer Program more than anything else!
.
See you, and all the guys on MAGIC! when I get back! As an aside to
(sysop), good luck with the subscriptions - I know you have some
exciting things planned!
.
To David (the other one) - maybe I'll see you and Scott at the HIDA in
Vegas! Hope so!

I really don't have the tatoo anymore. I had it removed by a laser
surgeon in Boston some years ago. Left no traces.

Re: TRIX
I guess you don't understand Sid Lorrainne's THE EYES HAVE IT.
It is a two fold board, when opened about 14x22. One one side you
show two giant EYES, the other shows 52 cards. In the act of
turning it around the 52 card side becomes a single gigantic card
(the chosen, of course). It was marketed by Ken Brooke... is great
and Joe Stevens still has a few of them left.

Re: NEW BOOKS FOR SALE
Doesn't sound like you won it.
At the Showman's League (Carnival Operators Convention) in Las
Vegas - held in Dec every year - the door prizes are Cadillacs.
I was at one party and they drew a ticket and gave one of the
Caddies away... Jay (Marshall) said... holy cow that is the THIRD
CADDILAC THAT GUY HAS WON....

Re: SILK TO EGG
Davidoooo.... it looks like tabman and I will be going to Lance
Burton's SECOND show on 9 Oct. (a Wed -- he is off Tues) -- ifn'
anyone else on MAGIC! Can make it... great... the key is to make
the reservation for second show. It is at the Hacienda, which is
about 1/2 mile toward LA, on the strip, from the Tropicana just
past the Excaliber. Mebbe can get a lower room rate if I know how
many are coming in... Need about a weeks notice...
What I will work on as well, is to get members of MAGIC! set up to
use the "invited guests" line... this way no wait. And sort the
head waiter out to seat all in one section. The main thing is for
each to TIP the guy... TIP FIRST TO HEAD WAITER... for each pair
of folks $5 will do it. The show is only around $15 so no big deal
and has not been selling out so same day call for res's will
probably be OK... but if you wanna call ahead it is 1-800-634-6655
I will be in touch with Lance... mebbe all can join him after the
final show in the Coffee Shop. Depends on how many attending.

Re: NEW BOOKS FOR SALE
The drawing is on Labor Day. Two years ago I was the entertainment
chairman for the event which is a tie in with the Jerry Lewis tele-
thon. I hope I win the Plymouth Fury. Last year I won two pieces of
carpet remnant. They really know how to do it here in St. Marys Co.
I'd like to win a used Ford tractor. I understand there is a magician
working this years event. If I have time, I'll drop by. This is
scarey. Most around here don't know my tie to magic which is fine
with me.

Re: NEW BOOKS FOR SALE
I have no idea what the prize being a used car has to do with the fact
that Burt Carpenter just posted BOOKSALE.TXT, a list of new books and
videos, but OK, you must have something in mind.
The idea of raffling a used car sounds like something the Arleta
Chamber of Commerce would come up with - only, in this neighborhood, it
would already have the hubcaps missing (and might even have been stolen
to begin with). Arleta is also known as "The Beverly Hills of
Pacoima," which means that in this area, when they redecorate your
face, they use a Michelob bottle.
By the way, yesterday a guy in Beverly Hills rented a LIMO and had the
driver take him from place to place while he was doing BURGLARIES.
True! The limo driver got suspicious after a while - thought the guy
was doin' drug deals - and called in and had the police meet them when
they returned. They got the guy with all the loot in a suitcase.
