The best trick I've found for getting to sleep when travelling is

Thanks. I wonder if those would work on our kid? He has a lot of

Mom and Dad? I have some "Mack's Pillow Soft Earplugs" around, but
they are for a Juan Tamariz routine.
I can basically sleep anywhere, as long as I'm horizontal (I can't
sleep sitting up). I've been known to sleep under coffee tables and
various other pieces of furniture, and on the floor of aircraft.

The juice sounds great but try to tell my Japanese counterparts that.
I just got finished playing this (drinking) game with a couple
of interesting Japanese celebs...actor Hiromi Go and Yurie Nitani.
Judging the entire spectacle was Kazuo Koike, a noted cartoonist.
If they would only drink juice....the game is something like the
Italian game of Mora' . Wherin you throw your fingers out and guess
the total of all the fingers, including your own, of the other player

Geno, it is the effect of the levitation of a golf ball. The gaffus

Re: TIPS ON THUMB TIPS
Frankly yes. No one should be "open" with anything like a thumb
tip or sixth finger... etc.
People DO SEE THESE THINGS IF YOU GIVE THEM THE OPPORTUNITY.
Read Salvano (the fine magician from Poland) on the thumb tip,
and Pat Page... you don't show it. There are subtle ways. Slydini
also has some great handling.
And yes, you are right, a chrome tip is what SHOULD BE USED to
make you work it properly.
There are a few exceptions (but very few)... at FISM Finn Jon
showed a thumb tie... standing right close (12-inches from my eyes
to his hands) he was wearing a thumb tip and I COULD NOT TELL. But,
the tip was custom made, custom painted... and the 'EDGE' was
covered with the cord he had tied around his thumbs.
It even had a nail on it!

Too bad you can't read PCX files on your laptop... or can you?
Could then send artwork, text, etc. instead of using the FAX
machina...
Repeating a message... DO NOT BUY THE LENS OVER THERE... can
get here for $260 in USA... Have you seen Tamura or Maki as yet?
And don't forget, if you have time... VISIT THE AKIHIBARA district,
and the Odobashii Camera store... LIKE DISNEYLAND...
Will include sketch of my gaff for the Miser's Dream load. Saw
Andre Kole do it couple nights ago and the stuff with folks in
the audience (from someones nose, tipping a gals purse over and
having several coins "seem" to fall out) was G R E A T effect on
the spectators! The best book on the subject (IMHO) is the Pat
Page treatise. The best performance I have ever seen was, of course
AL FLOSSO.... No one will ever come close.
I saw Charlie Miller do it one Sunday at the Castle, with a
room full of kids... Charlie pulled a coin out from behind a kids
ear and the kid's eyes popped out and he said, "Gee that was great,
can I have it?" Charlie didn't know what he was getting into when
he gave the kid the Half Dollar! Each kid wanted one... Charlie,
gentle soul that he was, DID GIVE EACH KID A HALF... Until he was
out. That show must have cost him more than he was paid!!!!
I think you might find that half dollar sized coins will b
be much easier to handle. Ron MacMillan (in London) made some FAKE
SILVER DOLLARS... (hard to travel across borders with) that are
great... shinier... lighter... and with a serrated edge for grip.
But... the load of halves is much better to work with. Unless you
are on a huge stage with 3,000 seats.
Got to get in gear today... have about 25,000 slides to go thru
and get the "selections" to Sports Illustrated by tonights FEDEX
pickup! Oh I hate that part of the biz.... I wish I could throw all
old pix away and only do new stuff... But the files are worth gold
if you market them... am too interested in Magic to fiddle with
stuff that makes business sense!!!! Argh...
Sushi last night was A1... Got to find a local spot as good.
This place is almost an hour drive from my crib.
Just ramblin' so you can have stuff to read...
I was going to start a magazine years ago called the PHINX.
A combo name from Phoenix, Jinx and Sphinx. Still might do a fake
issue or two sometime... hah...
Loved the Caveney gang's WENII take off on Genii.
You might look for an old abbaccus maker... could possibly make
knock off Faro Casekeepers cheaper than we can... IF one is found,
we could send a sample over for duplicating. Probably only need
about 24 total. Onasaka can probably lead you to one. If not will
see him in March and discuss.
HAH... JUST THOT OF SOMETHING.... The Chinese Do a trick with
a small "woven scoop" where they have 2 people hold a cloth out
between them (about folding card table size area) -- it is like a
small table cloth. OK, then the magi puts UN POPPED POPCORN onto
the sheet. He then scoops it up with the scoop... and pours it back
onto the sheet, this is repeated several times... and as the
process goes on the POPCORN CHANGES TO POPPED... if this is available
in Japan.... GET ME ONE.... I WILL BE IN DEBT TO YOU FOR CENTURIES.
.... Joke on TV last nite... guy said, "I was a BATTERED child....
Never Deep Fried, just battered".... this struck me so funny I
couldn't handle it.... dunno why.... just hit me....
Found all 3 of Leno's "headline" books in bookstore last night.
Great stuff.
If you do rope stuff, the Japanese have a really BETTER kind of
magic rope, whiter, softer... you could stock up. Just stay away
from the heavy stuff for travel. Did you have the Security guys
go thru all your stuff when you landed?
.
When I did, they had my Nine bottle set out and produced all the
bottles, tried to get the linking rings apart... I almost told them
they BROKE ONE.... but these guys were too serious and I didn't
want to get their attention...
.
In tahe early days of security checks, I was leaving the US in NY
once and they were doing 'SEARCHES' (before the metal detector was
introduced) and this VERY FBI LOOKING guy motions me to go inside
a cloth room (frame and cloth hanging around it) He comes in and
says, "hold your arms up" then he starts to Pat Me Down, like in
a search...right? I say, 'CAN YOU GUESS MY WEIGHT?' The poor guy
collapses with laughter!!!!! Finally gets it together and says,
"Get outa here...." Whew, coulda been a BY THE BOOK GUY and I would
still be chained to a damp brick wall somewhere in Washington!
When you get home will let you know what size BLANK dice stock
I need. No big amount, just a few for practice and display with my
old dice making rig.
You have not mentioned if you are flying back via San Fran?
If you do, unless some kind of outa town job hits (none listed now)
I will pick you up at Terminal and you got free room and board here.
Then you can dig my museum of Casino Olde Tyme Stuff and browse
the roomfull of props and books. Don't forget to ask Tamura if the
ratings on the NHK FISM show were good... Is imporante to el me.
Well outa time and I think I hear the teapot melting down in the
other room. (I know Lichtman is going to give me a cast iron one
with a smoke alarm on it)...
Oh, does it mean your deodorant has faded if you walk down the
hall and the smoke alarm goes off? (I think mine is chirping for a
new battery)... hope so...
....is raining here finally in N. Calif... sure need it... ex just
spent $6,000 drilling deeper well on the house up North (still no
buyers)...argh...

I've tried that, but they now fill that space between the first class

a nice space in front of the first row of seats just behind that same
bulkhead. But they've been getting touchy lately - they won't let you
curl up on the floor in front of the doors anymore.
Prior to JAL and those guys having beds in first class, I knew a
Taiwanese businessman who used to buy five coach seats for himself!
He'd take the whole row, lift the armrests and make it into a bed.
Once he got there and they said, "We can't seat your party all

The Tenkai Party will be around the 1st of Dec., I was asked to atten

of other magicians.....can't wait.
Hope to see Mrs. S. Tagaki today, she is so pleasant and cordial, and
a real lover of magic....I performed last night and really respect
the Japanese love of magic.....they love western performers, Pete,
they might even love Joe Stevens version of sidewalk shuffle, no
they really apprecite entertainment......this is like being on
stage 24 hours a day, you can do magic everywhere. Ton Onasaka says
that it is more warmly accepted from Americans and Europeans than
Japanese magicians....interesting......

probably published by D. Robbins. Great reading in all

Re: WAKEMAN
Saturday Nov 16 attended lecture by Randy Wakeman. Pleasant
appearance and presentation. Randy from Chicago was tied in with
Hebba Habba Al and worked all of the bars and also was associated
with Ed MArlo.
.
The group seemed to enjoy the lecture and heard many gasps at
some of the effects. I expected to see some of the strong material
for laymen that is characteristic of the bars in Chicago, but
most of the material was magic book/lecture material.
.
All of the material was with cards. Each effect was explained
with care with credit for each effect, method and move. Most of
the material was Marlo.
.
I did not have, nor buy the books sold in the lecture so cannot
tie the material to print as I would like, but here is the best I
can do to review the material.
.
.....Ascencion Transposition
.
Four cards change places with the four aces, one at a time. Lot
of Elmsley and Marlo. Similar, as I can recall, to Reset that a
lot of cardmen have worked on.
.
......Anything I Can Do..
.
Cute presentation showing that anything the magicain can do, the
spectator can do faster. Based on an effect by Terry ????. Maybe
Max can help.
.
......Bluff Aces
.
Marlo Ace Assembly from Ireland's Yearbook. A routine I use
often. Good of him to resurect it. The method eliminates palming
on the last card.
.
.....Spectator on Stage
.
Spectator cuts the aces. Complicated method to avoid problems
with other versions. OK with the complications - prefer Frank
Thompson's method.
.
.....Triversion
.
Version of James Lewis effect where a card in the deck turns
upside down or the card remains the same and the deck turns.
.
.....4 card stunner.
Can't remember this.
.
.....Randy Revelation
.
?? Can't remember.
.....Exploding Aces.
.
Find the aces in a flourish.
.
.....4 figuration.
.
Was the finding of the four selected cards? Mhhm!!
.
.....Over Clock
.
Very clever clock effect. Could be good under ceertain
circumstances.
.
I am not as good as I should be reviewing this lecture. Those new
to the literature of card magic got a lot out of it. Personaly I
was reminded of a lot of things. I'll have to look up my Marlo -
which aint a bad thing.

Re: COIN FLIPPER
The flipper coin is composed of a shell and a folding coin cut 1/3 and
2/3. The 1/3 is is attached to the hollow of the shell. When the
folding coin is folded, from the top it loooks like two coins.
When the folding coin opens flat the whole think looks like one
coin. Thus you have the vanish of a coin for the coins through
the table. I'm sorry that is isn't some kind of scam. Be
interested in hearing about the scam though.

Re: WORD TO WISE
A bit of a departure from magic, but here's a little suggestion for
those with AT type computers that have CMOS. Take a look around in the
SETUP (usually this comes up when you start your computer and there is
a line like "Press DEL for SETUP or DIAGNOSTICS") and either PRINT
OFF or WRITE DOWN the setup for your disk drives! Somewhere in that
"SETUP" you should find something like "Drive Type - Cylinders - Heads
- WP - LZ - Sectors" and some numbers for each of your disk ("hard")
drives. Make note of these and then CARVE THEM INTO A ROCK OUTSIDE
YOUR DOOR!!! Someday, the CMOS battery will die (right, Pete?) or
something else will happen and you _WILL_ need these numbers!!!
What reminded me to pass this little hint along? Oh, nothing really...
only I was just working on installing a second drive in my personal
computer when an improperly made cable (I'd like to kill the !@#$% who
made it) knocked out my CMOS. Result? No access to my primary drive!
So, while I was rooting around trying to remember how my drive was set
up, I thought I would pass the message along to everyone.
I think I'm going to go lie down for a while and try to regain my
mind...

Re: COIN FLIPPER
David Roth showed the identical idea at the NY Magic Symposium here
in LA in '85 or '86. He showed it using a folding coin. I always
wondered why no one was marketing a flipper coin that had the proper
ratio of coin sizes, as the folding coin isn't quite right.
.
Roth called it the 'flying eagle' and shows 'three' coins in the left
hand, and when he tosses them into the air only two hit the table. He
reaches up into the air and catches the third from the air with his
right hand. I'm sure you see the drift of how it goes until all coins
fly to the right hand.

Re: PK LECTURE
Ee;
I went to the Whole Life Expo yesterday, what a blast ! Attended a
lecture on how to mend metal using your mind. The guy had a bunch of
silverware that he provided. About 25-30 people there to learn.
.
Step one, use a dowsing rod to select which forks or spoons will
bend for you.
.
Step two, center and visualize a 'white light' in your mind. Then
visualize it traveling down your arms and into your hands, then into
the item to be bent. Focus on a point and then scream 'BEND' to
separate the mind conection.
.
Step three, apply slight pressure and at the point the mind energy
softens the metal, the spoon or fork becomes 'fluid' for any where
from 5-30 seconds. You can twist them like a pretzel.
.
Phase II - Buckling the bowl of a spoon. Same as before, except you
fold the bowl of a spoon back on itself.
.
Phase III - Bending steel bars.
.
Result - I was able to get four folks to bend quite easily. Never
could get a spoon to buckle. The spoon is much to tough to bend by
sheer strength. Several people got their spoons to buckle (including
several women who could never have bent a spoon bowl by strength
alone). It was an incredible experience, 25-30 people screaming at
silverware was unique to say the least.
.
Last experiment was for spontaneous bending - everyone grabbed two
forks and meditated on them, to just 'melt'. No one was sucessful.

Terminal velocity for a human depends on the bodies position while
falling. When I used to skydive we would generally fall in a somewhat
spread eagle position for stability. Slight movements of hands and
feet would control our turns on a horizontal axis. In this position
125 mph is terminal velocity. However, when you are in a hurry to get
to the ground you can assume a "delta" position. Head down with arms
tucked in to sides. This greatly decreases the wind resistance and
speeds upwards of 170 mph can be reached.

Re: JAPAN
Well, that's a great idea....everyone on the block can do the effect.
Here I am in Marugame, on this remote Northern Island of Japan.
This has been really special. Just finished a show for some
special dignitaries. By the way Gen. Colin Powell was in Tokyo
last night at the show. He is very nice and certainly a lover of the
variety arts. (sorry about the spelling, but I can't go back
and correct). He had at least 50 security at the affair, and we
were adjacent to the US Embassy. He was very friendly and discussed
some of our comedians.....I am not at liberty to say who??????
Pete...thanks again for the FAX, I will enjoy it.
I am tired and have been working hard today, so I will get on this
machine in the morning.......
Pete the telephone here in Maruhgame is: Okura Hotel, 0877-23-2222.
The fax is 0877-23-0100.
I traveled with a dove all the way from Tokyo, and I am not even a do
ve worker.......got into my room and opened a window. The room
over looks a beautiful bay and I thought it would be nice to let
the bird get some fresh air.....before I could count one, the dove
was perched on the window ledge....He didn't budge, and could have
flown out the window........wow, was that close...........
Talk to you all later.....

ready for today's two shows....The first stage show is at 6:30 pm,
and then a private show at 7:45,,,,,
It is definately recommended to anyone travelling with a magic

I think that it can be clickish if one lets it. I teach the average
of 8 kids and 3 adults every 8 weeks and have been doing this for 6 or
seven years and now I see kids working their way through UMASS doing
magic; Yes, I have lost house parties because of this, but believe it
or not I get more students from this; because MAGIC can be fun and
profitable if one does not take themselves to seriously. I try to make
magic fun not a show of I can do this and you can't; I think this is
your real point too. If your audience is not having fun and you are
your not doing it right, you both should be getting enjoyment out
of the performance.

Yeah, but I haven't seen anyone doing a seminar at a psychic fair (or

I guess that anything you leave lying around for 30 years could get
picked up! You GOTTA get your stuff into print, Pete. Of course,
someitmes people do think of the same things in the same way without
ever seeing anyone do it. If you will recall, for example, I asked you
about a device to inflate a balloon before I saw you do it. My intent
and presentation were nowhere near yours - I was just looking for a
wway to inflate balloons. By the way, I finally found my gizmo and it
didn't work any better (actually, it worked a great deal worse) than
yours does. So it is back to the drawing board on what I'm trying to
do.
Maybe if you find enought stuff on the rings, you should consider a
ring trilogy?

I understand the ear-plug trick works best for sleeping in

The thing about spoon bowl buckling is that its literally impossible
for most people to bend a spoon bowl using strength alone (Arnie
could probably do it with one hand, but normal people can't) so that
when you get one to buckle it MUST be due to some other force at work
.
I didn't have a chance to personally check each spoon that was buckle

If your books cost a hundred dollars a foot you are buying cheap book
s. Last few books I bought costs a hundred dollars an inch. I went to
Knoxville magic Club last night to do a song and dance re: the Music
City Conclave and gots to see RICARDO lecture. You ever heard of this
dude. He is an older gent from Wisconsin. He was doing a dealer demo
and most all his stuff was direct rip off (unless he is so old he
invented the stuff before everybody else was born). He would start hi
s pitch with "so and so sells this for 25 dollars, but not Ricardo.
I sell it for 8 dollars." I wanted to call him down on it but I was
there to make friends and kept my mouth shut. Most people there with
any age on em at all pretty much knew what the score was anyhow.
Got good response on MCCM though.

The flipper scam was a method of finding a person who liked to
bet on coin tosses. The one fellow that I knew went all over the
world looking for a sucker. If he heard there was a poker game
he would travel to the town and just hang around to get someone
in a wagering situation. He would offer huge odds of say 3, 4, 5 and
more to one (2/1 3/1 4/1 5/1 etc.)

Re: JAPAN
I had a little problem calling out from where I was located, due
to the telephone exchange. I probabbly could have done better if
I broyght my ProComm manual with me. I have fineshed last night's
show and I was happy with every thing, except a reel braking just
before the curtain, so I had to change the opening slightly.
Instead of doing serpent silk directly to a dove steal, I modified
the serpent silk routine. I used another red silk as a flower on my
lapel, and tied this into a knot and magically blew it away.
Thank God I had another reel, however it was hooked to a blue silk.
My dove bag was red, so I did what I had to do.
Bring plenty of back up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The opening show was a final count of 855 people or so, and was filme
was filmed for Japanese television. The scripted show was really
a well produced show. I was introduced by several popular Japanese
TV personalities. Hiromo Go, Yitani, Kawajimi, and several very
popular film stars were in attendence....I was very honored.
They opened with some very contemporary american music, however
had the traditioonal breaking of the SAKI drums.....three or four
about 50 gallons each....very impressive.
Leaving for Tokyo, for the Okura Hotel and another show for
dignitaries of the Palace........
By the way, who has Thompson's routine "The Spectator Cuts the Aces?"
Love to learn it....

Thanks for the info on Avery's spot o glue stickers. I made some
calls today and called their product line telephone #. Avery makes the
labels which come 212 labels per pack. These labels when applied to a
coin or any other substance will leave a drop of rubber cement (ala D.
Harkey's lecture / notes). If you can't find these in your local store
call Roberts, a stationary (catalogue) supply house at 1-800-742-8247.
Their price is $9.13 per box, each box contains 6 packages. Master Card
accepted, shipping extra. Again thanks for the help. I'm still looking
for the beeping key locator device that is triggered by a sender

"Arigato Gozaimashita" is past tense, and thus only used when what you
are thanking for is concluded. If it's something on-going, use "Arigato
Gozaimasu."
When refering to someone in print it is not generally necessary to use
the -san suffix at all; in a western text it usually comes off as being
affected. If you do choose to use it, the "s" is lower case.

Re: FROGS IN MAGIC
He does both year 'round. He's a very interesting guy. He's been able
to hide the problem from almost everyone - I'll bet that very few of
his friends know.
An example: Four couples are in a Chinese resturant. The fortune
cookies arrive. The woman sitting next to him reads hers out loud. So
does her husband. Now we've got a pattern going - everyone opens
theirs and reads 'em out loud. It gets to his turn. He opens it,
scans it, and starts laughing so hard he can't read! He hands it to
his wife and she reads it! Then he says, "You may not think it was so
funny, but you had to know what happened to me today..." and proceedes
to relate a story.

Re: JAPAN
I presume you're thinking of the Kamakura Daibutsu. If so, it was cast
in 1252. Bronze- and iron-working techniques were imported to Japan
from Korea circa 150; the Chinese were doing it far earlier, perhaps as
early as the Shang dynasty (1400 BCE).
By the way, when it comes to earthenware pottery, the Japanese come
in first; examples have been found which are some 7000 years old, which
pre-dates any Mesopotamian stuff.

It is interesting to me that the Japanese haven't developed a
good quality playing card....I have seen several decks made from
plastic, which, in my opinion, are superior to KEM plastics....
Look out if they do, because they can improve on everything. Maybe
they don't make them because of the amount of ingredients needed.
US playing Card Co. is the biggest user of shellac in the US. I
think their BEE back is the smoothest and best for magic.
I was in a small store buying some supplies and the clerk asked
me what I am doing in Japan....I told her and did a small Jack
Chanin paper tear with a 1,000 yen note. Before I was finished they
were responding, indicationg that they really enjoy magic. Presented
correctly a westerner could do very good in Tokyo...there are
hundreds of venues.......

Yep (re; functional illiterate and Del Ray lisp). Just goes to show

Bill this is very interesting town....it is the home of Marta Becket,
the former prima ballerina from New York. She migrated there in the
60's and built a small opera house. She also is a noted painter.
There is practically no residents in the small town, so she painted
an entire audience on the walls.....she has small productions on
the weekends, and very very unique........but this twon is very
close to Death Valley, where there is a first class hotel.....

casino cards are made to a higher standard. That is, they are punched

The idea of a deck of cards with optical illusions has already been
done, twice. "Can You Believe Your Eyes? 52 Visual Illusions on Playing
Cards" was released in 1984, and a sequel, "More Illusions & Visual
Oddities - 52+ Visual Illusions on Playing Cards" came out in 1987. The
production is excellent (the decks were printed in Belgium). They were
put together by Professors Block and Yuker, psychologists at Hofstra
University.
The distributor is Y&B Associates, Inc., 33 Primrose Lane, Hempstead,
NY 11550. They sell for about $6 per deck. While you're in Tokyo you
might want to check Kiddyland in the Harajuku district; I think they
have the decks in stock. (Even if they don't, it's a store worth
visiting.)

Re: JAPAN
Geno,
Sorry I've not written sooner, I've been having too much fun
reading your daily messages. Actually, I feel strange corresponding
with such an international celebrity.
Japan is definitely a fun place to be. I lived over there for about
three years during my early teens. I've always wanted to go back
now that I can enjoy more adult activities. I spent an afternoon
there two years ago, when our plane's radar broke down. I was
amazed how things basically hadn't changed since I was last there
in the early seventies. I'm glad everything is working out so well
for you over there, although I kind of miss having you in Vegas. I
guess I'll survive.
It occurred to me later what you meant when you said "Don't worry,
I can get you another", when you showed me your deck that night.
When I got home, I could only find three Aces. The Ace of Clubs
somehow got lost. I'm still having fun practicing, but a three Ace
production seems to be lacking something.
When you return, I need to enlist your aid in creating a deck for
a particular effect. I bought the deck a few years ago, but it was
so badly made, it couldn't pass even the mildest scrutiny, and
since the trick involved two spectators handling their halves of
the deck for quite a long time, I haven't felt comfortable
performing it.
Also, I'm EXTREMELY INTERESTED in the navigation device you
mentioned. I'm presently working full time building a specialized
receiver to do just that. Anything you can find out would be
appreciated. Especially the navigation scheme used (does GPS, or
GLONASS ring a bell?) Any information on cost, size, where to buy,
would help greatly.
Looking forward to your return,
David (the other one)

Re: SMOKED CAVAZINI
It was interesting at the Nashville Magic Club tonight. They had
a pretty good turnout and elected officers. A one time MAGIC!
member, Richard Street, was elected president and Gary Hayes,
president, was elected vp. I think you know Gary. Supreme Magic
se rep, Bruce Amato who has offered advice on the conclave
several months was there.
.
Richard Street had lost his modem and computer for a while, but
he finally got it back, a work relaqted thing. Richard was in on
the initial talking about the conclave and then he dissapeared
and now he turns up pres elect of nash magic. Was glad to see. I
also joined the club tonight too as well as a kid who did card
magic. I hope they'll support me on the conclave. There were a
couple of guys there who had already signed up. Some guys were
passing a copy of Stan Allen's new mag around and it was the
first time most of them had seen it. Somebody saw the ad on Music
City Conclave and asked about it. I gave them a talk on why I was
doing it and about my dreams and ideas on it. I got the feeling
that some of them never heard of it yet. Most DO NOT READ any
magazine but LINKING RING. Bill Wells is RIGHT! Once I got over
the shock I started having fun and met some cool guys who I went
nosh with til 1am. One guy working on PhD in Psych, a songwriter
for biggest country publisher, Tree Intl, magic and baseball card
dealer, a student and a couple guys who drove down from Bowling
Green. One guy from Dallas said his mentor was ROGER CRABTREE!!!
and he was the country songwriter too.
.
Now that I'm in the club, I am going to suggest that they take
some of that dues money and buy subscriptions to at least The GENII
and MAGIC.
.
It is also quite hard to imagine living in a world of magic
without MAGIC! and the opportunities it offers. The big news
tonight at the meeting was the talk of the Copperfield purchase.
Also out of the dozen or so performers I saw tonight I saw two
things I liked. One a silk appearance from mouth presented by the
teen ager and the other an original (?? at least I hadn't seen
it) comedy using a lota from the PhD candidate. Also another guy
got up and told about a trick he used to do. It was pretty funny
actually.
.
Also learned that Joe Carazini, the gent that does the cigarette
eating from the Sullivan Show lives just up the road in a house
trailer with his brother, his agent, just over the Kentucky line.
I am supposed to get his phone number tomorrow.

created by him.

touches the rings -- and no, there is no stooge. Maybe someday I will
publish it.

Re: ROBOT AT TAPER
BIRO.ZIP now exists for you to upload at your leisure. All you have
to do is change the password in the 2 files MAGICLOG.ASp & MAGICREP.A
SP and create 2 entries to call MAGIC! in PCPLUS. One entry should
use the script MAGICLOG and the other MAGICREP. You will have to chan
ge the directory numbers in the ASP files to point to the appropriate
entries in your system. The compile the ASP files to create the ASX
files and you are in business. Enjoy !

In a way, I wish they wouldn't keep making the darn computers and stuff
smaller and smaller. I'm a fiend for micromineaturization - I always
gotta have the smallest, etc. Not only does it cost me money every
time they come up with a smaller electronic or photographic devices,
but, quite seriously, so far I have LOST one microcassette recorder and
a television set! The recorder merely seems to be lost on my desk,
probably under a credit card. The tele seems to be gone for good - I
haven't been able to find it in 5 years.

Thanks, Geno - I got your phone message when I got home and yeah, I was
at the Castle tonite. Only it seems I was looking at the wrong
schedule! Tony worked LAST WEEK. DRAT! But Bruce Cervon and Tom
Ogden were good, and Bruce Gold, Christopher Hart, and Robert Dorian
were in the Palace. Gold does a nice psychic toaster bit. Hart has
some very creative ideas, one really beautiful cross between a Kevin
James hand and a zombie ball, but he's gotta work a little on flashing.

look forward to it.

Forget the fog. Hirosige produced a series of prints called
"Hundred Views of Fiji". Buy them and forget photography. The
"Great Wave" is probably one of the greatest art works of all
times. Fuji can be seen - almost. Better than fog tho.

Jeff Altman is a friend. Mention my name if you contact him. He
was in Baltimore attending Hopkins and spent much time with Frank
Thompson and me. Don't know how he was able to graduate. Was with
him a couple of months ago and he can still do good stuff.
.
Met his father Art only once, and he did nothing as he was
suffering from Lou Gehrig disease. Art was a close friend of
Marlo as Art visited Chicago many times as a salesman for
pharmesuticals. That can't be the right spelling!!
.
Jeff can be seen Saturdays on "Nurses". Its on NBC. In the east
it's at 9:30 PM.

What is you book exactly? Finger rings or the big ones, or both?
You do know that Mentzer did an excellent book on finger rings.
.
Speaking of the ring off the rope which started with Roy Johnson
and Ray Grismer, ask Bill Wells to explain the case of Scotty
York who wound up in court with another magician which started
over who had the first version of Scotty's method.
.
Incidently Frank Thompson had some input into this effect, which
has never been mentioned.

Agreed that the Bee Brand is best. Del Ray uses them a lot, but
you have a hard time if a card is face up in the deck and
shouldn't be noticed.

Re: FROGS IN MAGIC
Agree on the Del Ray Festival. Del uses electronics a great deal,
along with superb skill. Don't know why you used past tense in
your message.
.
He used Hamman's "Final Aces" with Bee brand cards. There is
someone in Pittsburg who does this stuff. Think he helps out Paul
Goetner also.
.
Worked a gig with Del, who after his stage routine explained that
he would do more close-up. I was from row center when he started.
His table looks like and ordinary foldup table, but when I felt
under it it seemed like it was 6" thick.
.
Our sysop (should that be capitalized? I'll have to check the New
York Times style book.) would like to know that he has a tiny
frog which he places on your hand and upon command stands on it's
front legs. Amazing!!
.
I'll be interested in hearing others reply on Del for the
Festival, but I must say he is in good company. There was another
magician who used electrical magic and sleight of hand combined.
His name? Robert-Houdin, of course.

Re: JAPAN
Card perfomers use poker sized cards because that is the standard
size and, in the case of Bicycle, the brand most common in the
United States. Check this out in your local Drug Store.
.
Nobody would recognize Fox Lake Specials. They might think they
are trick cards, which in many cases they are.
.
Max, I'm sorry this I think sould be addressed to Pete.
.
Some of the things Jerry Andrus does can not be done with the
poker sized deck - even with his large hands.
